Irish music, yes! I’m a singer that specialises in Irish music from traditional ballads to cheerful songs and instrumentals. I like singing by using an old traditional irish ornamental singing style(Sean Nos). I take my guitar, harmonica, irish whistle and low-whistle with me to gigs to create good atmosphere and to accompany my singing. The rugged history and romantic touch can be sensed when I sing ballads. No wonder I like ..let.s say, Christy Moore interpretations. Songs with a mystic celtic touch are especially close to my heart. Humor, yes, we all need it! Cheerful pub-songs like Finnegans Wake simply make you feel thursty! Can I get a pint!
Winter 2003, I spent in Ireland concentrating on the local music scene. I collected some good stuff by spending weeks in traditional music archives in Dublin. I also shared the microphone with local musicians at singer’s night events, which was a fun way to spend an evening or two in a pub. Later, I enjoyed some instrumental sessions in Westport. In Galway, I met a local craftsman who made me a low-whistle, with his own hands!! During the summer of 2005, I had the honour to step on stage for a half-hour gig at Loch Lomond Folk music festival. So no wonder that my repertoire contains lots of Scottish songs and tunes.
In addition to Irish and Scottish music, I have lots of folk songs from the good old America and Canada. Also, plenty of famous Brittish songs, - be they old or trendy - those songs have found their way into my well-worn songbook. Bryan Adams, Don McLean, John Denver, Oasis and so on. Finnish folk songs are having a comeback in my life and even when singing abroad I like to give foreign people a draught of our traditional singing culture.
Duo Jhary’s

To sing as a troubadour is not my only way of making an appearance. Jukka Vesalainen (mandolin, fiddle) share the same passion for joyful music and compelling tunes in our duo called Jhary’s. He has a long experience as a folk-musician in Finland. His wild fingers make the fiddle sound exactly like it should when it comes to traditional celtic music. In addition to traditional songs one can hear instrumentals with whistles, mandolin, fiddle and guitar.
We offer a funny exhausting moment when Virpi Miljar joins us! She is a danceartist who graduated from dance-academy in England and continued her studyings in Ireland focusing in traditional Irish dancing on different courses and private lessons. She is a gift from heaven who has teached many finns to become traditional irish music dancers. She performs solo-dances like jigs, slip-jigs, light-jigs and hornpipes. Folks will have the unforgettable chance to learn traditional dances in session, when Virpi shows them first steps. Later, believe or not, you will dance a long, long reel !
Big festivals may be interested in our show, where you will see us with tens and tens of dancers.
Dágan is a brand new rock-band with celtic/irish influences! The stunning music of 6-men group won’t leave you cold. Feedback seems to promise shining future for Dágan. No wonder the band is already taking contacts to middle-Europe record-companies. Go and check out Dágan homepage: www.daganmusic.com and www.myspace.co,/daganband

My irish music

“No aspect of Irish music can be fully understood without a deep appreciation of Sean-nos…”
Old Irish music attracts with its individual decorative singing and playing style. Sean-nos is an old singing tradition, where the “storyteller” sings a story by sitting on a chair with good posture. Originally, instruments were not used as accompaniment. Listeners respect the singer with silence.
It may be Sean-Nos or maybe something else, but one can hear decoration everywhere when listening to Irish music. Typical Irish musical instruments are fiddles, small accordions, concertinas, Uillean pipes (Irish bagpipes), whistles, Irish flutes and harps. In addition, Irish music has taken even banjos, mandolins and buzukis to be a permanent part of its traditional instrument selection.
Irish music has typically beautiful, picturesque celtic-tunes, jolly session-dance-jigs and sweet romantic ballads. Listeners also become familiar with harsh and touching stories about wars and losing loved ones
I deeply love singing these ballads, often with the decorative Sean-Nos style spiced with beauty, happiness and humor… All we need is a good time together; music and craic, that is!
